da prosport bet: Manchester United have a huge few weeks ahead of them, with the hierarchy desperately needing to make the right call with their managerial appointment.

da bet7: The Red Devils’ draw with second-bottom Burnley on Wednesday night highlights the challenge the new manager has on his hands, but it still remains unclear who will take the reins long-term.

Darren Fletcher remains the interim boss at present, with the Scotsman set to lead the Red Devils once again when they host Premier League outfit Brighton in the FA Cup on Sunday.

However, INEOS are working tirelessly behind the scenes to find a solution after Ruben Amorim’s departure, with another interim and a long-term solution needed.

Numerous names remain in the hierarchy’s sights at present, with talks continuously being held with multiple of the options in an attempt to lead the club back to their former glory.

Man Utd advancing talks to appoint a new manager

After Amorim’s departure on Monday morning, a whole host of names have been mentioned over a move to Old Trafford, but none more so than Enzo Maresca.

The Italian was dismissed from his role at Chelsea on New Year’s Day, but it appears as though the 45-year-old could be set for a swift return to management.

The United hierarchy have reportedly already held talks with the former Manchester City assistant boss over taking the reins, but a deal doesn’t appear close to completion at present.

However, he’s not the only boss currently in talks with the club over a move to Old Trafford, with former player Michael Carrick another option being considered.

According to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett, the 44-year-old has already held talks over taking the job on a temporary basis, after previously managing the side back in 2021 for three matches.

They claim that positive talks were held earlier this week over a deal to appoint Carrick until the end of the season, with “further talks” scheduled to take place in the coming days.

Why Carrick would be perfect for Kobbie Mainoo at United

Despite the talks to re-appoint Carrick, the United board have also been keen on a fairytale return for Ole Gunnar Solskjær, with the Norwegian wanting the job after his previous stint at Old Trafford.

The 52-year-old spent almost three years at the helm between 2018 and 2021, achieving a 54% win record across all competitions, even leading the Red Devils to second-place during his tenure.

However, he was previously dismissed after a poor run of form, with no permanent manager able to hit the same heights during their own spells at the helm in Manchester.

Like Carrick, talks have been held with the former player over a sensational return to the Red Devils, with the fanbase also advocating Solskjaer after his previous tenure.

Despite the noise over the re-appointment of the former talisman, the hierarchy should be prioritising a move for Carrick, with the 44-year-old able to resurrect the career of Kobbie Mainoo.

The youngster was seen as the future of the football club just a couple of years ago, but his progress stagnated massively during Amorim’s tenure at the club.

He often called upon Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte ahead of him in the pecking order – a decision which proved to be a baffling one given his previous performances in the first-team.

During his breakthrough campaign back in 2023/24, the 20-year-old scored countless key goals, including in the FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City – subsequently securing the club the trophy.

As a result, he was named as part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024, even featuring in the final as the Three Lions fell at the last hurdle to Spain.

However, in 2025/26, Amorim opted against starting Mainoo in any of the 20 Premier League games he was in charge for, which led to huge rumours over his future away from the club.

The return of Carrick, who’s been dubbed “phenomenal” by Dev Bajwa, could hand the academy graduate a new lease of life, especially considering his own career and his preference for a 4-2-3-1 formation.

He racked up 100s of senior appearances as a player at United, featuring at the heart of the side under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson – even winning five Premier League titles.

The manager’s experience of success and what’s required to thrive in the Premier League, particularly as one of the division’s top midfielders, could be crucial for the youngster, who now has the chance to save his once-promising career.

Whilst countless managers remain in the frame for the job at present, a deal to appoint Carrick until the end of the season makes sense for all parties involved.

Should he replicate his previous form as temporary boss, whilst also resurrecting Mainoo’s professional career, the club will be in a much better place for the next permanent boss come the summer.
