da blaze casino: Glasgow Rangers are reportedly set to sign winger Andreas Skov Olsen on loan until the end of the season to bolster their options in the final third.

da dobrowin: Sky Sports reports that a deal has been agreed with Wolfsburg to bring the Denmark international on an initial loan, with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

The left-footed right winger will come in to offer Danny Rohl a different profile at the top end of the pitch, as the Gers do not currently have a left-footed natural winger.

Skov Olsen, who racked up a staggering 36 goals and assists for Club Brugge as recently as the 2023/24 campaign, may not be the only forward addition made by the Scottish Premiership giants this month.

Rangers very keen on signing Premier League forward

The owners are willing to back Rohl in the transfer market, with Skov Olsen due to join Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens as new arrivals, and there could be more to come.

According to the Daily Record, Glasgow Rangers are ‘very keen’ on a deal to sign Romaine Mundle from Premier League side Sunderland in the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie reports that the Black Cats want to keep hold of the English winger beyond this window, despite not starting him in a single Premier League game this season.

Downie states that Rangers and Feyenoord have growing interest in the former Tottenham Hotspur youngster, who is said to want more game time than he has had so far this term.

He adds that the Gers and the Dutch side are both considering moves to sign him this month, but they will need to convince Sunderland to change their current stance on his availability.

Why Rangers should push to sign Romaine Mundle

Rangers should push to change their stance on Mundle because he has the potential to arrive at Ibrox as an upgrade on their current left winger Djeidi Gassama in the second half of the season.

After joining from Sheffield Wednesday last summer, the French forward hit the ground running with four goals in six Champions League qualifying matches for the Gers, but he has been unable to continue that form over the last few months.

Gassama, who won a penalty against Aberdeen last time out, has only scored one goal in 22 appearances for the Light Blues in the Scottish Premiership this term, which is a dismal return for an attacking player in a title-chasing side.

As you can see in the table above, the 22-year-old forward has also only provided two assists from three ‘big chances’ created on the flank for the Gers, with three goal contributions in total.

This comes after he produced seven goals and one assist in 43 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship last season, whilst playing in the same division as Mundle when he was chasing promotion with Sunderland.

The chart above shows that Mundle outperformed Gassama in most metrics per 90 in the English second tier, including non-penalty goals and assists.

Per Sofascore, the English wing wizard scored five goals and provided two assists in 17 starts in the league for the Black Cats, as they won promotion via the play-offs, which shows that he had a big impact in limited game time on the pitch due to injury.

Unfortunately, he has not been given much of a chance to showcase his talent in the Premier League, with eight substitute appearances this season, but the Gers could offer him a route out of Wearside to come and play regular football at Ibrox.

Mundle, who journalist Josh Bunting claimed would be “frightening” in Scotland, has the potential to offer even more quality than Gassama at the top end of the pitch, given that he outperformed the Frenchman in the Championship last term.

The Englishman averaged 0.31 goals per 90 and 0.12 assists per 90 in the Championship last season, per FotMob, whilst Gassama is currently averaging 0.06 goals per 90 and 0.11 assists per 90 in the Premiership with the Gers.

These statistics, coupled with their comparable form in England in the 2024/25 campaign, suggest that Rangers would have an upgrade on Gassama if they can keep Mundle fit.

That is why the Gers should keep pushing to change Sunderland’s mind so that they can land the left winger after they bring in Skov Olsen from Wolfsburg.
